The Service

What our alarm response service covers

SPS alarm response (also called security alarm response) is for businesses that do not want staff driving to their premises when an alarm activates. Our 24/7 control room receives the activation and sends an SIA-licensed officer to check, secure and report on the site.

Alarm response is usually provided with key holding, so the officer can get inside, find the cause and reset the alarm. Many clients also add mobile patrols or lock and unlock so one local provider covers the whole out-of-hours period.

Where the same detector or zone keeps causing false alarms, we flag it in the report and our sister company SPS Technical can fix the fault, so you stop paying for avoidable callouts. Get a free quote for your sites.

Alarm Response Services in Yorkshire & Lincolnshire

SPS Security provides 24/7 alarm response for businesses across Hull, Grimsby, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. When your intruder or fire alarm activates, an SIA-licensed officer attends, checks and secures the site, and reports back, so you and your staff don't have to.

What happens when your alarm goes off

Your alarm sends the activation to a monitoring centre, which passes it to our 24/7 control room in Hull. We dispatch a response officer, contact your nominated keyholders if needed, and track the officer's arrival by GPS.

On site, the officer checks the outside for signs of entry, then checks inside if we hold your keys. They secure open doors and windows, call the police if there is evidence of a break-in, wait for glaziers or contractors, reset the alarm where possible and send a time-stamped report.

Intruder alarm response

Police only respond to monitored intruder alarms with a police Unique Reference Number (URN), and repeated false alarms can lead to that response being reduced or withdrawn. A security alarm response service means every activation is still checked by a trained officer, whatever the police decide.

Fire alarm response

Many fire and rescue services, including those covering our area, no longer send an engine to an unconfirmed automatic fire alarm at commercial premises, and some charge for repeat false alarms. Our officer can attend, confirm whether there is a fire and make sure the right action is taken.

Alarm response and key holding

Alarm response works best with key holding: with your keys, the officer can get inside, find the cause and reset the alarm. SPS is an SIA Approved Contractor for key holding and stores keys coded, never labelled with your address.

Alarm maintenance and monitoring through SPS Technical

Response is only as good as the alarm behind it. Our sister division SPS Technical provides intruder alarm maintenance, fire alarm servicing and 24/7 alarm monitoring, so one group maintains your system, monitors it and sends an officer when it activates.

When our officers see the same zone or detector causing repeat callouts, the report goes to SPS Technical to find and fix the fault. This reduces false alarms, protects police and fire service response and cuts attendance charges. Use the free false alarm cost calculator to see what false alarms are costing you, or read about moving alarm signalling off phone lines before the PSTN switch-off.

Choosing an alarm response company

Check that the company is SIA approved, runs its own 24/7 control room, can tell you target attendance times for your postcode and gives you proof of arrival and a report after every callout. Ask how they handle repeat false alarms; a good provider helps you get them fixed rather than just attending them.

FAQs

Alarm response FAQs

Common questions about security alarm response.

An alarm response service sends a trained, SIA-licensed security officer to your premises when your intruder or fire alarm activates, instead of a member of your staff. The officer checks the building inside and out, secures it, waits with police or contractors if needed, resets the alarm where possible and sends you a written report.
Security alarm response (also called alarm response security or alarm call-out) is the same service: a security company attends your alarm activations around the clock. SPS Security provides it from its Hull control room across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
Usually, yes. If the responding officer holds a set of your keys they can get inside, check the building, deal with the cause and re-set the alarm. Without keys, they can only check the outside. Most clients take key holding and alarm response together.
Alarm response is normally priced as an annual key holding fee, from around £250 a year per site, plus a charge each time an officer attends. The total depends on how many sites you have, how often your alarms activate and any extra checks you want. We give a fixed quote after a short review.
Target attendance times are agreed with you for each site and depend on the location and time of day. Our core response area is Hull and East Yorkshire, Grimsby and North East Lincolnshire, and Scunthorpe and North Lincolnshire. Every arrival is GPS and time-stamped, so you can see exactly when the officer got there.
Police only respond to monitored intruder alarms that have a police Unique Reference Number (URN), and they expect evidence of a crime in progress. Repeated false alarms can lead to police response being reduced or withdrawn. A security alarm response service means someone still attends and checks the site whatever the police decide.
Yes. Many fire and rescue services no longer send an engine to automatic fire alarms at commercial premises unless a fire is confirmed, and some charge for repeat false alarms. Our officer can attend, check the building and confirm whether there is a fire so the right action is taken quickly.
To respond automatically, your alarm needs to send activations to a monitoring centre that can pass them to our control room. If your alarm only rings a bell on site, our sister company SPS Technical can advise on connecting it to monitoring.
Yes. SPS Technical, the fire and security systems division of the SPS Group, installs, services and monitors intruder alarms and fire alarms. Having the same group maintain, monitor and respond to your alarm means faults that cause false alarms are found and fixed, and activations go straight to our control room.
The officer checks the outside of the building for signs of entry, then, if they hold keys, checks inside. They secure any open doors or windows, call the police if there is evidence of a break-in, wait for glaziers or contractors if needed, reset the alarm where possible and send you a time-stamped report.
Yes. We provide alarm response for single sites and multi-site portfolios across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, with each site's keys, instructions and contacts held centrally by our control room.
A written report confirming arrival and departure times, what the officer found, what action was taken and whether anything needs following up, such as a faulty detector causing repeat false alarms.
