Fire and security systems, and the people who respond to them
CCTV, intruder alarms, fire alarms and access control installed, maintained and monitored by SPS Technical, with SPS Security officers responding when they activate. One Hull-based fire and security company, covering Yorkshire and Lincolnshire since 1992.
SPS Technical is the fire and security systems division of the SPS Group. It installs and maintains the equipment; SPS Security provides the officers, patrols, key holding and alarm response. You deal with one group for both your people and your technology.

What a fire and security company does
A fire and security company protects buildings with four main systems: CCTV, intruder alarms, fire alarms and access control. It designs and installs them, services them so they keep working and meet British Standards, and connects them to 24/7 monitoring.
Most fire and security companies stop there. When an alarm goes off at 2am, someone still has to attend. Because SPS also provides alarm response, key holding, mobile patrols and security guarding, the same group that maintains your system also sends the officer.
Commercial CCTV systems
SPS Technical designs, installs and maintains commercial CCTV for offices, warehouses, retail parks, schools and industrial sites. Systems are planned around what you need to see: entrances, yards, perimeters and stock areas, with cameras chosen for the lighting and distance at each point.
Where CCTV is connected to the SPS 24/7 control room, operators review alerts as they happen. If someone is on site who shouldn't be, the control room can send an SPS Security mobile patrol or alarm response officer, so footage leads to action rather than just a recording.
- IP CCTV design and installation
- Planned maintenance and repairs
- Remote monitoring through the SPS control room
- Takeover of systems fitted by other companies
Intruder alarm systems
SPS Technical installs and services commercial intruder alarms and connects them to monitoring, including the police Unique Reference Number (URN) needed for police response. With the PSTN phone network being switched off, many older alarms need their signalling upgraded to digital paths.
When a monitored alarm activates, SPS Security can send an SIA-licensed officer with your keys to check and secure the site. If the same zone keeps triggering false alarms, the officer's report goes back to SPS Technical to find and fix the fault.
- Graded intruder alarm installation
- Routine servicing and fault repairs
- 24/7 monitoring and police URN
- PSTN to digital signalling upgrades
Fire alarm systems
SPS Technical installs and maintains fire detection and alarm systems for commercial premises in line with BS 5839-1, including servicing, testing, repairs and taking over systems from other providers. Its free fire alarm category finder helps you understand which system category your building is likely to need.
Many fire and rescue services no longer send an engine to an unconfirmed automatic fire alarm, and some charge for repeat false alarms. SPS Security officers can attend out of hours to confirm whether there is a fire, while SPS Technical works on reducing the false alarms in the first place.
- Fire alarm installation to BS 5839-1
- Servicing, testing and repairs
- False alarm investigation and reduction
- Out-of-hours attendance by SPS officers
Access control systems
SPS Technical installs and maintains door access control, from single doors with fobs or cards to multi-site systems with intercoms and visitor entry. Systems can be set up so only the right people get into the right areas at the right times.
Access control works hand in hand with SPS Security's lock and unlock, key holding and guarding. When a door or reader fails, an SPS keyholder can secure the building while an engineer carries out the repair.
- Door access with fobs, cards and keypads
- Intercoms and visitor entry
- Maintenance and upgrades
- Linked to lock and unlock and key holding
How systems and security officers work together
What happens when your system needs a person, and which SPS service handles it.
CCTV detects someone on site
Our control room checks the cameras live and sends a mobile patrol or alarm response officer.
Intruder alarm activates
An SIA-licensed officer attends, checks and secures the site and reports back.
Fire alarm goes off out of hours
An officer attends to confirm whether there is a fire, as many fire services no longer attend unconfirmed alarms.
Repeat false alarms
Officers log the zone or detector, and an SPS Technical engineer finds and fixes the fault.
Door or access control fault
A keyholder secures the building while an engineer repairs the door or reader.
Site empty or between uses
Temporary CCTV and inspections protect the building while permanent systems are planned.
Why it works better together
When your CCTV triggers an alert, the same control room that manages your guarding verifies the footage and dispatches a response. When an intruder alarm activates, your keyholding team is already briefed on the site layout. That's the advantage of a single-group approach.
SPS Technical maintains over 2,500 systems across the region, all connected to the SPS 24/7 control room. Every installation, service visit and fault response is carried out by in-house engineers — not subcontractors — so your systems and your people are always on the same page.
