premises have a different security challenge from closed, staff-only sites. People arrive for different reasons, access can change throughout the day, and incidents often involve visitors, contractors, deliveries, tenants, customers or members of the public. This means procedures matter as much as physical security measures. CCTV, access control, guarding and alarms are useful, but staff still need to know what to do, who is responsible and when to escalate. It is managing people, behaviour, expectations, movement and escalation. Without clear procedures, staff may improvise — creating inconsistency, delay and risk. ## 1\. Visitor and contractor access procedure Public-facing premises should have a clear process for visitors and contractors. The procedure should explain how visitors are received, whether appointments are checked, whether ID is required, when badges are issued, who can approve access, whether visitors should be escorted and how sign-out is managed. ## 2\. Front-of-house security and role clarity A procedure should explain what front-of-house staff should do, what they should not do, and when a security officer, duty manager or other responsible person should become involved. ## 3\.
