Installed controls matter, but only when they support stronger routines, clearer ownership and practical escalation. Coverage alone is not the same as operational value. ## Access control Useful questions include whether access rules are applied consistently, where bypass risk exists, how tailgating is handled and whether unmanaged routes have drifted into routine use. ## Visitor management Visitor flow, challenge culture, records and contractor or public access all matter because front-end process drift can quickly weaken otherwise strong systems. ## Linking systems to procedures Systems usually work best when tied to clear routines, ownership and escalation. Without that, they risk becoming passive reassurance rather than active operational support. ## Common blind spots - Passive CCTV with limited active use. - Weak access discipline or unmanaged bypass routes. - Service entrance and rear access gaps. - Visitor process drift over time. Not on its own. CCTV only supports readiness if coverage is appropriate, monitoring is active where needed, footage is usable in practice and staff know when and how to escalate concerns. Typical issues include tailgating, unmanaged side or rear entrances, inconsistent access rules, temporary workarounds becoming normal practice and poor oversight of contractor access. Why does visitor management matter if we already have controlled entry? Visitor management helps maintain challenge culture, accurate records and consistent front-of-house processes.
